You know it when the lemonade stands come out. When the cantaloupes and watermelons begin to crowd the shelves at the grocery store. When the sun comes out more often than not and the rain seems to hold off for days at a time. When the grass turns green and the trees start to bloom and the heat sits heavy in the air – it’s summertime, and that means it’s time for a wardrobe refresh. The change of the seasons is one of life’s greatest excuses to shop, so as soon as the sunshine hits, it’s time to hit the stores. One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to swap out your winter style for some summer loving? Michael Kors watches, of course. Michael Kors, who grew up on Long Island and ended up at FIT as soon as he graduated high school, is an American sportswear designer who is revered for his ready to wear collections – but who also delves into accessories: watches, handbags, jewelry. The watches that Michael Kors offers come in a variety of different finishes, from gold to silver to rose gold and more.

Kors is one of those American legends who has managed to withstand the test of time – thanks to a long career during which he continually innovates. Kors was born Karl Anderson, Jr. on Long Island, and changed his name at the age of five, when his mother remarried and told him he was free to change his name if he chose to. Thinking of his famous future, he changed his name to Michael David Kors. Throughout his childhood in Merrick, NY on Long Island (coincidentally the same town that super starlet Lindsay Lohan grew up in as well), Kors poured through Vogue magazines and dreamed of a future in fashion, and after graduating high school, he moved to New York City. By the age of nineteen, he had begun designing his own line while enrolled at Fashion Institute for Technology.

By 1981, he had rolled out his first line, Michael Kors womenswear, at highly regarded retailers such as Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor and more. By 1997, he was named the creative director and women’s ready to wear designer at the French fashion house Celine, where he quickly became known for turning a long suffering fashion house into a haven for chic accessories that women scooped up – left and right. However, Kors only spent a few years at Celine; it wasn’t long before, despite his success at the fashion house, he left to focus on his namesake brand, which was growing faster than he could believe. By 2002, he’d launched menswear, and two years later, having just left Celine a year earlier, he’d launched multiple diffusion lines, including MICHAEL Michael Kors and KORS Michael Kors. By then, his lines included not just apparel but also footwear, jeans and handbags – as well as watches.

These days, Kors’ designs are worn by all of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities. Brand ambassadors include Blake Lively, Brooklyn Decker, Rachel McAdams and more. With both his clothing lines and accessories, Kors is beloved for straddling the line between fancy and professional. Though he makes sportswear to be worn to work, he’s also a king of party dresses, functional handbags and jewelry that people can’t wait to get their hands on. But it’s not just designing that Kors has his hands on. For years, he’s been a judge on the successful Bravo series, Project Runway, where he’s told designer after designer whether they’ve made it work or not.

It’s a wonder that he finds time to design watches, but somehow, he does! One of his most popular watches is the Women’s Quartz Chronoraph Crystal Accent Clear Acetate Bracelet Watch. It’s a stunning timepiece that is just as much a piece of jewelry as it is a watch – chic, sophisticated, and totally logical. The great thing about Kors is that he understands the divide between form and function, and knows how to marry the two – and this watch is no exception to that rule. A silver-tone watch that sparkles in the sun, this watch can be worn both at the office and out on the town; it goes with almost any outfit. It’s got a stainless steel case and a clear acetate bracelet that puts it firmly on trend while keeping it timeless. That’s the magic of Michael Kors: he knows how to walk the line with trends, never going too far over the edge and creating something you won’t want to wear in a year. Instead, the brilliant and prolific designer managers to continually create things that you’ll want to own and wear for years to come. If you want to make an investment in summer style, Michael Kors watches are for you.
