Searching for the Perfect Designer Watch?

I was shopping for a dress the other day, and happened to notice these two garments next to each other on a rack in the Michael Kors department. I find this strangely reminiscent of the dresses designed by the first two designers that were kicked off in Season 2.

“What’s in a name?” This famous query from Shakespeare’s immortal play, Romeo and Juliet, echoes through the centuries. Of course, the Bard of Avon was dead wrong. With all due respect, there is quite a lot in a name, at least in the modern age. The advertising industry was built on the concept that consumers are loyal to certain names and brands. They are often willing to pay quite a bit more for those that have cachet.

What do we mean?

Hot new restaurants take reservations weeks in advance. The famous automaker, Ferrari, has a wait time of over two years. Some fashionistas travel hundreds of miles to buy Burberry handbags. What do all of these items have in common? The demand for them greatly outpaces the supply. As a result, people must pay more or wait longer to buy them.

Designer watches

Just like Ferraris, designer watches are luxury items. And the single most important factor that drives the price is the name that is printed on the dial. A Rolex is not a Rolex just because it is made with the finest materials. The name conveys quality, craftsmanship, and status. When aficionados buy these timepieces, they know they’re getting accessories that will last a lifetime.

What to look for?

As the name suggests, most designer watches are made by real designers. Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Channel, and Luis Vuitton are all famous fashion designers that started out making clothes and later expanded their lines. In addition to popular accessories like handbags, shoes, sunglasses, and jewelry, all of them also make their own watches. Well, make might be overstating it a bit.

Fashion designers are not watchmakers. They deal in aesthetics, not mechanics. Making a watch run is no simple task. Most horologists learn their trade from an early age. It is for this reason that designers often buy movements from reputable manufacturers. These are the devices that actually make the watch tick. And do you know what? It actually works! Designer watches are popular because they feature the best of both works. Their fa├žade is designed by experts in aesthetics and their insides are made by experienced horologists.

Arguably the most popular movement maker in the world is Piaget. In addition to movements for their own watches, they also sell movements to popular designers like Ralph Lauren, Cartier, and Van Cleef wristwatches. Even veteran watchmakers do not look down on this activity. Most see nothing wrong with buying movements from reputable companies like Piaget.

Michael Kors Watches

Long Island native Michael Kors have been designing clothes and accessories as a professional for over three decades now. As creative director of the French fashion house Celine, he became an international fashion icon before the age of 40. Considered a wunderkind by fashionistas the world over, he expanded his own label to include watches in 2004. Because he didn’t want to waste time with something he didn’t understand, Mr. Kors smartly decided to buy his watch movements from Fossil, an American designer and watchmaker. The move paid off. His timepieces are highly-regarded for their style and reliability. Let us take a moment to discuss two of his most popular models.

Gold Dial Gold Tone Link Band Watch

Sleek and sophisticated, this popular timepiece is as durable as it is pretty. Made of gold-toned stainless steel, the Michael Kors Gold Dial Watch is powered by reliable and accurate quartz movement. The stunning gold dial features Arabic hour markers and luminous gold-toned watch hands. The three subdials of this chronograph watch measures time in seconds, minutes, and hours. There’s even a handsome date display window between the four and five o’clock hour markers. The watchband is made of stainless steel, gold-toned links that open and close with a comfortable and secure deployment clasp. Although it is eye-catching, the Michael Kors Gold Dial Watch can double as a sports watch. It has an impressive water resistance of 100 meters (330 feet)!

Quartz Silver with White Dial Watch

One of his flashier models, the quartz silver watch with white dial features 120 crystals that encircle the watch case in two separate rows. The watch dial is made of white mother-of-pearl with Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock hours. A stainless steel, silver-toned link bracelet opens and closes with a deployment buckle. The scratch-resistant mineral crystal display protects the watch in up to 165 feet of water. There is also a handy date window display between the four and five o’clock hour markers.

Both of the designer timepieces we discussed today are sold by official watch dealers on the internet.

You cannot really argue against the fact that a nice timepiece adds volumes of professionalism to your clothes. While dressing snazzy is one thing you can do to draw attention, having an elegant wristwatch is another. They are yet one more amazing contribution to already well-conceived attire. They are not only a good accessory, they help you stay on top of your work, and you get the benefit of them being a valuable investment.

When you think of luxury, what comes to your mind? Is it solely style and elegance or do you like to define the term by including convenience, feature-friendly interfaces, and durability? Luxury is much more than looking-good, it’s living well. If you really start your comparison shopping you will notice that many of the brand-name designer watches, like Armani, Nautica, or Michael Kors watches will feature a lot of things for business, travel, and leisure. Do not discount these features when you start looking for your ideal timepiece.

If you do a lot of travel for business or even if you do it leisurely an excellent feature to have is multiple time zone settings. Some chronograph models will have a place for you to set at least one or two extra time zones, and possibly even alarms to wake you up from your jetlag.

On the other hand, other watches may feature diving, swimming, biking, or racing mechanics to track distance, depth, time, and records. These are perfect for the avid sports competitor and adventurer seeking the ultimate thrills of the world around them. Athletes need something utilitarian and handy. Citizen watches use technology to do many of these things and some even recharge in sunlight so that the batteries never run out.

On the other hand, some people look at luxury as the watch that has even the things you don’t need but absolutely want, such as a built in mini-computer or MP3 players. Gadgets and spy-like gear are without a doubt the coolest features, although not necessarily practical. They are definitely a wonder to look into, though, should your heart desire.

Do you comparison shopping for these accessories online. If you do, you will be able to find many more options and probably even score better discounts or promotions with your purchase. Look for stores that carry the brands you like and work your way through from there. More than likely you’ll find the timepiece love of your life.

Wrapped Up In You

Designer clothing and accessories can be expensive, and out of the financial reach of many people. But designer watches don’t have to be. Michael Kors is a designer that has created a line of watches that are elegant and dependable, with all the high-priced style you want to wear, but without the high prices that other designers might charge. Here are a few examples of the fine fashion timepieces that are within your reach.

You ladies will look as if you spent thousands when you wear the Michael Kors Women’s White MK5269 watch, but you won’t spend nearly that amount. This fine Japanese Quartz watch features a white ceramic case, back and bracelet. The bezel is fashioned with rose gold-tone and glitters with crystals. It looks like a beautiful designer bracelet, but it operates like one of the most expensive watches you can find. Rose gold-tone accents adorn the round chronograph and there are three subdials on the lower half of the face. A date window sits just below the four o’clock hour. This is a watch that you can wear to the office, the playground or a formal dinner. And you won’t spend a fortune to own it.

Any man who’s looking for a reasonably priced designer watch will appreciate the look of the MK Mens Chrono 2 Tone Bracelet Watch. The round case, dial and bezel are gold-tone while the link bracelet features silver-tone links twining through gold-tone ones. This is a handsome wristwatch that is as masculine as it is elegant. Japanese Quartz movement powers the hands as well as the subdials. Keep track of what day it is via the date window that sits between four and five o’clock.

A more business-like watch for ladies is the Michael Kors Women’s Classic Quartz Acetate Bracelet Watch. The square silver-tone dial is bold, with Arabic numerals at the three, six, nine and twelve positions. Japanese Quartz movement powers the silver-tone hour and minute hands, ensuring that you will always reach your next appointment on time. Black surrounds the dial and the bezel is silver-tone. The acetate watch band is a rich, patterned black that can look dressy or casual, depending on what else you’re wearing. This is a handsome watch that is well within a reasonable price range.

For casual wear, the designer look is still appropriate for any man. The MK Mens Chrono SS and Brown Watch is a perfect choice for a camping trip or for an afternoon of golf with the guys. Silver-tone stainless steel accents a brown dial and polyurethane link bracelet. Like most other MK watches, this one offers three subdials and a date window. Fine detailing on the face reveals the love of design that MK includes in each of its products without lifting the price beyond the reach of the average fashion-conscious shopper.

If the classic look is more your style, but you want to maintain a feminine look, try on the Michael Kors Women’s Jet Set Quartz Gold-tone Bracelet Watch. The link bracelet is constructed of stainless steel for the ultimate in durability, while the gold-tone of that steel ensures that this timepiece is also eye-catching. The round dial and bezel are also gold-tone, with three chronographs on the lower half of the watch face. A date window at the four o’clock position reveals the date, and Arabic numerals at the two, four, eight and twelve o’clock positions make it easy for you to keep track of what time it is.

Take a look at the Michael Kors Men’s Jetset Quartz Chronograph White Stainless Steel Watch and you’ll immediately wonder how you’ll ever afford this fine designer timepiece. But take a second look–at the price–and you’ll discover that you really can have a rich wristwatch of your very own. This dashing timepiece is fashioned from silver-tone stainless steel with a white bracelet. The round white dial features three subdials and a date window as well as gleaming hour markers. It’s a beauty that will complement any man’s wardrobe, allowing you the financial flexibility you need to stay on the leading edge of fashion.

Give yourself a really unique look for a really little price when you put on the Michael Kors Women’s Classic Quartz White Polyurethane Bracelet Watch. The bracelet is fashioned out of distinctively shaped links, as are the case and dial. Crafted from polyurethane in a mixture of brown and white, this is a standout watch as far as style goes, and it still offers you the dependability of Japanese Quartz movement. It features Arabic numerals at the three, six, nine and twelve o’clock positions, with brown hour and minute hands to help you track the time.

These watches are only a few of the designer gems that are well within your reach. So pick out one or more for yourself or give them as gifts to friends and family members. You’ll all look as rich as you feel.
